Rolling Equity Leasing

It all started with one truck and one perfectly timed hello.

This story began on May 1, 2020—a date most people would not have chosen to launch a brand-new way of leasing trucks.

COVID-19 was just beginning. Rolling Equity Leasing was a new company with no customers, just a few trucks on order, and plenty of uncertainty ahead. Then the phone rang.

TAG Truck Center called to say that a FedEx transportation service provider named Adam Robertson, owner of Blue City Carriers, had walked into the dealership looking for a truck. As luck—or perhaps fate—would have it, TAG CEO Gary Dodson happened to be walking by.

Gary stopped, introduced himself, and told Adam about a new lease program created specifically for FedEx fleet owners by a couple of guys and a company called Rolling Equity Leasing.

Adam listened, smiled, and said, “I know those guys.”

And he certainly did. Adam had worked with REL founders Pat McKay and Tyler Tattum at Schneider National and had managed Tyler’s Memphis operation until 2013, when he left to pursue an opportunity as a FedEx business owner. Since then, he has grown his fleet, expanded into Amazon, and returned to his transportation roots by investing in linehaul.

Weeks after that chance meeting, Adam, Pat, and Tyler gathered at TAG in Memphis, where this photo was taken. At the time, the three still had no idea they were capturing the beginning of a partnership that would be growing ever stronger six years later.

That first lease—a Freightliner Cascadia—was much more than a truck. It represented trust, opportunity, and the beginning of something special.

Since then, REL has partnered with the TAG and Lonestar Truck Group families to order more than 400 trucks for REL customers, with hundreds more currently on order. What began with one customer, one truck, and one perfectly timed conversation has grown into a powerful network of successful fleet owners and trusted partners.

Exceptional service and a first-class customer experience are fundamental to REL’s reputation—they are the brand and the trademark. REL values partners who share those same expectations. Great service is not simply appreciated; it is essential.

Six years down the road, the folks at REL are proud to remember where it all began. They extend deep appreciation to Daimler Truck Financial, Freightliner, TAG Truck Center, Lonestar Truck Group, and to Adam Arrington and Scotty Son for their friendship, relentless support, and commitment to their customers. And most particularly, they thank Adam Robertson and the entire Blue City Carriers team for taking a chance on REL.

That first truck helped start an incredible journey. The relationships, trust, and momentum built since then have positioned REL for substantial future growth—including being named to the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies.

One truck started the journey. Six years later, hundreds more are on the road, REL partnerships are stronger than ever, and the company is confident that its greatest years—and greatest opportunities—are still ahead.
