Garner Trucking

How a family-owned, one-truck business drove its growth and reputation into multiple honors and halls of fame.

In 1960, Vern and Regina Garner founded their trucking company, which consisted of a single truck hauling agricultural products. Since then, under the leadership of the founders and then their daughter, Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, the company has never stopped seizing new opportunities to expand its operational footprint, add to its fleet, and hire and nurture great people.

Today, Garner Trucking operates 90 power units and 365 dry van trailers and an auto, truck, and trailer repair business. The company’s average length of haul is 350 miles, with dry van truckload services operating primarily in the Midwest. In 2025, Garner celebrated 65 years in the trucking industry!

Founder Vern Garner was deeply respected within the industry. He served as the ATA’s Chairman of the Board in the 2000s and earned induction into the Ohio Trucking Association Hall of Honor in 2005.

The recognition has continued under his daughter’s direction: For 10 consecutive years, Garner Trucking has received recognition as a “Best Fleets to Drive For,” and in 2022 earned the award’s top honor. In 2025, for the third consecutive year, it was named to that year’s “Best Fleets to Drive For” Hall of Fame!

In addition, Garner Trucking received the inaugural Stratosphere Award—and repeated the accolade the next year—for the top-scoring fleet in the Best Fleets Hall of Fame. Garner has been named a Top Trucking Company for Women to Work For in transportation in 2023, 2024 & 2025. It also earned a 2022 Truckload Carriers Association’s Safe Fleet Award and Elite Fleet in 2025 & 2026.

A prominent figure within the broader trucking industry, Sherri Garner Brumbaugh served as the Chair of the Board of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) in 2020.
